Free product listings
Approved products appear on Google without anyone bidding on them. It is the least glamorous channel in retail and one of the few where the work you have already done for paid Shopping pays a second time at no extra cost.
Where free listings appear
- The Shopping tab, where the majority of unpaid product traffic sits.
- Google Search, in product-rich result modules.
- Google Images, where a product image links back to a purchasable listing.
- Google Lens, when someone photographs a product and looks for where to buy it.
- Increasingly, AI shopping answers, which read structured product data for the same reasons the Shopping tab does.
What they require
The same feed, meeting the same product data specification, in a Merchant Center account with the free listings programme active and the site verified and claimed. There is no separate feed, no separate approval and no bid. A product that is eligible for the Shopping auction is generally eligible here too.
This is the argument for feed quality that has nothing to do with advertising. Every disapproved item is removed from the free surfaces as well as the paid ones, and the free ones cost nothing to be on.
Cobiro and free listings
Cobiro provides free product listings on Google Shopping, covering the Shopping tab, Search, Images and Lens, and on emerging surfaces including ChatGPT, at no additional cost beyond the subscription. The distribution is part of the platform rather than an upsell.
How to think about the traffic
Free listing traffic converts differently from paid Shopping traffic. It skews toward earlier-stage browsing and toward long-tail products that would rarely win a paid auction, which makes it disproportionately valuable for large catalogues with deep tails.
It is also the surface most exposed to the shift toward AI-mediated shopping. An assistant comparing three products on specification is reading structured attributes, not ad copy. That puts the feed enrichment chapter and this one on the same ground.
